Journaling meets recycling

Designer Connections Blog Hop's January Challenge:  Journaling.

Do you have boxes left over from Christmas? How about cereal or juice boxes that you are placing in the recycling bin?  Instead of just tossing them away, make a pretty journal!

I created this journal for Viva Decor's blog and shows reads how to recycle boxes into covers for this journal.  Then, you use Viva's beautiful soft ink and pens for the cover.  This journal is simple to make and is a perfect project for all ages.  Viva should post the instructions soon, so make sure to visit them.

When it comes to journal pages, I do like working in a digital format.  I create my own background papers and embellishments.  My favorite subject is my niece, of course.  She loves our photo shoots because she gets to play while I take photos.  In this photo, we are in the park and she's playing with a basket.

Once I printed out the digital page, I attached colored studs from ILovetoCreate.  While they are normally used with fabric, I like using them on paper.  I attach them with Tulip's 3-D fabric paints.

You can create a similar layout by using premade scrapbook papers and cut them to fit inside the 5 3/4 by 8 3/4 journal above.  Look for sticker letters to spell out "Love is for sharing".  You can also place baby rickrack (for fabrics) onto your page.  I've made my photograph lighter so it works with the background.  But, you may not need to do this if your background papers are stronger.

Make sure to see the other journals in our blog hop.  Just click on the Designer Connections Blog Hop icon in my side bar.

Next month, I will have information from the Craft and Hobby Association Trande Show.  There will be a lot of news to report.  make sure to bookmark my blog.  If you are friends with me on Facebook (side bar), you'll be first to hear about new products, learn about the wearable art spring trends, and more.
